Out of Chaos: Stick Houses and Fairy Homes

On March 29 the children arrived at Forest School to find that the stick house they had been exploring on previous visits was now scattered across the forest floor. After the initial shock, several children decided to take matters into their own hands and began the task of rebuilding. It was a team effort all the way. At the end of the day, the basic structure had taken shape and plans for how to proceed continued throughout the week back at school. Returning on April 2, the children took up the work again, but this time the theme of building stick houses spread, and smaller "fairy houses" began springing up under the trees. Many children scoured the ground for suitable materials with which to decorate the houses, while others worked on building roads, climbing trees, and experimenting with some of the larger branches.
