Setting the Stage

Forest

In Pre-K, the children are sharing their tree treasures, comparing, classifying, and creating beautiful arrangements. They also use their tree treasures to tell stories and create play scenarios. We have talked about what we might see in our forest classroom and what treasures they might find there. Everyone is excited to begin our Forest School adventure!

Where and When:
The first trip is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, with Jacqueline and Jennifer's classes. Please be sure to join us for a pre-trip meeting in Jacqueline's classroom at 9:00 am. The busses usually arrive by 9:20. Remember to check the weather and dress accordingly - we go rain or shine! We have rain suits for the children, but chaperones need to come prepared. We are back at school by 1:30.

We need chaperones and help with car seats:
If you would like to be a chaperone on any of our trips, please contact your child's teacher. If you are planning to help out by volunteering to assist in loading the car seats onto the busses on Forest Days, be sure to view the video by clicking on "Car Seat Tutorial" at the top of the Home page on this blog.

Each creation holds a special secret!

Shore

In Kindergarten, children have been creating shore scenes using sand, shells, rocks, and bits of driftwood. Barbara and Johanna have introduced everyone to the hermit crabs and the children are learning how to care for them. Each day they inspect the aquarium, clean out uneaten food, provide fresh food and water, and take the crabs out for a little exercise in their "playground in a tub." Hermit crabs are naturally curious and they seem to love climbing and exploring in their new environment. The children are learning the proper way to handle the crabs and can identify each one by name. We're all looking forward to our trips to the shore, beginning next week!

Where and When:
The first trip is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, with Valerie & Marisol and Doug's classes. Our destination is Coney Island Beach. Please join us in Doug's classroom at 9:00 for a pre-trip meeting to learn about all the activities we have planned. Remember to dress according to the weather - we go rain or shine (with the exception of severe weather warnings). We have rain suits for the children, but not for chaperones. We will eat lunch on the trip. Busses arrive around 9:20 and we return to school by 1:30.

We need chaperones for the trips!
If you would like to be a chaperone on one of our trips, please contact you child's teacher and sign up! (Kindergarteners are able to ride the busses without car seats - so no need for volunteers to help with loading.) As chaperones you will be given specific jobs (all guaranteed to be enjoyable!)
