Forest School At Lefferts House

A short walk from the Natural Playspace is the Lefferts House, a historic farmhouse located just across from the carousel in Prospect Park. The Lefferts House provides a contrast to the forest setting of the Playspace and is an example of the interface between the forest environment and human habitation. Maria and Rafe of Prospect Park Alliance greeted us on our first visit and led the children on a brief tour of the grounds. At Lefferts House, the children will have the opportunity to help with various projects including the creation of rock borders for a pollinator garden to be planted in the spring. Rafe enlisted the children's help in collecting rocks and soon a sizable pile was formed. We will be visiting the Lefferts House several more times this year and have chosen a new route into the woods that passes by the House so that we can observe the changes with the coming seasons.
