A Toasty Treat for the Cold Weather

On Pre-K's second visit to Lefferts House, we were treated to a demonstration on how to safely build a fire outdoors. Rafe led us through the steps of identifying and gathering kindling, tinder, and fuel, how to arrange and stack them to insure a successful fire, and how to maintain safety throughout the entire process. The kids then gathered wood for the fire and separated it into the appropriate piles. Rafe took it from there and the kids watched as the campfire came to life...

...but it wouldn't be complete without...

... a marshmallow roast! Vegan marshmallows, it turns out, are delicious!

With a little time left over for exploration and play, a group of children built their own make-believe version of the campfire, complete with bark-chip marshmallows.
